DB Schenker analyzes all carbon emissions from a customers transports. The analysis shows the points along the supply chain where emissions can be most effectively reduced.
Collecting data on CO2 emissions along the supply chain is among the major challenges in transportation and logistics and DB Schenker meets this challenge with the EcoTransIT World tool and its commitment to harmonization initiatives.
The tool analyzes CO2 emissions along the entire transport chain based on annually verified parameters from the transportation industry and DB Schenker suppliers and carriers. The specialists at DB Schenker calculate absolute and specific emission figures for customers and use them as a basis for making recommendations on how to save by combining energy-efficient modes of transportation or alternative routes. DB Schenker calculates greenhouse gases for its top customers to create annual footprints that are even more comprehensive. All intermodal door-to-door transports, including cross-docking, are included and the most important potential ways to save are identified.
DB Schenker uses a three-step approach:
- Prevention: Introduction of low-carbon processes
- Reduction: Modal shifts and savings through optimizing routes and reducing packaging, for example
- Compensation: As a supplement to reduction
